Political
crisis takes a holiday
A lull in the political set up is due to prevail during the festive
season with the Mano Tittawella (PA)-Malik Samarawickrama (UNP)
committee coming to a standstill as both officials are overseas.
Discussions
were held last week and the talks are likely to resume late January.
The Sunday Times reliably learns that the Presidential representative
is to return to the country by mid January. Meanwhile, President
Chandrika Kumaratunga left for Dickwella on Friday for a vacation.
Speculation
was rife on a forthcoming election, with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe
meeting with party organisers over the weekend. The Premier met
party organisers in the Gampaha district last evening. |
