| Your
life is a gift we share
              In loving memory of Raj
              Quietly I'm remembering you
In the silence of my heart.
Each thought of you, a treasure
              While we are now apart.
            At times I'm
              filled with longing
Your face I'd love to see.
To feel your warmth, to hear your voice,

            But God has
              a plan, He created you
              And numbered all your days.
May He hold you in His loving arms
And surround me with His grace.
            With the hope
of reunion in heaven one day,
I entrust you to His care.
Cherished memories of you live on in my heart
Your life is a gift we share.

            She was a symbol
              of compassion
              Stella Jayasuriya
It is with profound sadness that I write about my beloved cousin,
Stella Akka, who passed away two years ago on December 21, at the
age of 73 years. I can still picture her smiling and cheerful face
in spite of the ups and downs of life. She had an excellent memory
up to her death and could recall any name or incident in a second.
She was modest, soft spoken and cultured.
             Born in Weligama,
the youngest in a family of seven, she had her education at Sri
Sumangala Vidyalaya, Weligama. She started teaching in 1954 when
she joined the Education Department as an English assistant teacher.
As an English teacher for over 35 years, she served in several schools
in the Matara district and made her students realize the value of
              English.
             She lived a
simple and contented life. She was a symbol of compassion.
She took a special interest in the activities of the Asokaramaya
in Issadeen town, Matara. Stella Akka had a very caring and understanding
husband. She shared a happy home with her husband, three daughters
              and son.
             She will be
remembered by those who loved her. May her journey in Sansara be
short and smooth and may she attain the supreme bless of Nibbana.

              J.A.D Bandulatha Wijayaratne (nee Jayanetti)
The death of J.A.D. Bandulatha Wijayaratne (nee Jayanetti) of Elvitigala
Flats, Colombo 8 on September 16 at the age of 61 is a great loss
              to her relatives and friends.
             She was born
to a Buddhist family in Wadduwa and lived at Sri Ramya, Wasantharama
Temple Lane, Wadduwa until her marriage to W.A.C.P. Wijayaratne
on November 29, 1973. Mr. Wijayaratne is at present a consultant
to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.
             Bandulatha
had her early education at the Panadura Balika Vidyalaya and later
joined the Wadduwa Central College where she studied up to the H.S.C.
In 1962, she entered the Peradeniya University and obtained her
B.A. in 1965. She was a good teacher and tutored weaker students.
             Later she joined
the National Housing Department as the Secretary of the Rent Control
Board and her first outstation posting in 1971 was to Kalutara.
She also served at Kotikawatte and Dehiwela.
             After retirement
from government service in 1991, she joined the Lanka Electrical
Company Pvt. Ltd. (LECO) as an advisor on legal matters. She served
LECO for nearly two years. Unfortunately, she was compelled to stay
at home from 1994 due to ill health and in 1998 suffered a stroke.
             Until her illness,
no social, cultural or religious event took place in the area, without
her active participation. She took a special interest in ceremonies
conducted at the Sariputra Vihara and Rajayathana Viharaya on Elvitigala
Mawatha, Colombo 8 and Abayasinharamaya Temple, Panchikawatta. Although
she led a quiet and simple life, she was a founder member of the
              Elvitigala Flats' Welfare Society.
              May she attain Nibbana.
