Wijewardena is Mr. Sri Lanka

Mahinda Wijewardena of Fitness Kingdom Club, Bambalapitiya won the Champions Trophy beating Sumedha Dharmapriya of Kurunegala into second spot at the Mr. Sri Lanka 2003 contest, conducted by the Body Builders' Association of Sri Lanka and sponsored by Delmege held on December 14 under the patronage of the Sports Minister Mr. Johnston Fernando, at the Tower Hall. The 3rd place was won by W.G.Rajiv Tissera of Leo Fitness Centre Club, Kalutara.

Among the distinguished guests present on the occasion were the Mr. John Amaratunga, Christian Affairs Minister, Mayor of Colombo Mr. Prasanna Gunawardene, Mr. Dhanasiri Amaratunga, Mayor Dehiwala-Mt.Lavinia, Mr. Milton Amarasinghe, Director of Sports and Ms. Trixi Nanayakkara, Directress of Sports, Mr. Suraj Deen Executive Director, Delmage and Nishan Weerasekera, Sales Manager.
Addressing the gathering the Sports Minister Fernando said that body building is a sport that he feels is very popular and that as much as one million rupees has been allocated for the sport next year. As the present staff is dedicated the minister said that he would like to retain them next year as well.

Mr. Dhanasiri Amaratunga, Mayor, Dehiwala-Mt.Lavinia said that since this is a sport where even the poorer section of society could take part, he would like to promote it and would be spending Rs. 100,000 of his own money next year for the proposed Muscle Mania- Mr. Sri Lanka contest and the winner would be given a trophy that no other contestant has received so far. There was also a contest for the over 45 age group which caught up the fancy of sports fans and there were many contestants for this event too. The awards were presented by Mr. Johnston Fernando.
