No
more punching cards
The Public Administration Ministry has done away with the practice
of public servants having to punch cards to mark attendance from
January 1 this year. This is part of an effort by the Ministry to
create a friendlier environment for employees, which would in turn
help to improve productivity and quality of service.
According
to the Ministry the existing rules and regulations to keep public
servants in their work place for a fixed period of time has adversely
affected the efforts to achieve speedy economic and social development.
The
Ministry says that the volume of work to be performed is more important
than the time frame and because of this it has thought of providing
an opportunity to public servants to attend and leave office at
convenient times in order to create an environment to perform duties
in a friendly manner in close contact with the head of department
thus improving productivity and quality.
Depending
the success of this programme, the existing institutional rules
and regulations will be amended. |
