Turned
back
A large number of policemen who were asked to attend a first aid
camp at the Police Field Force Headquarters in Colombo on the last
Poya day were irked as many of them had to turn back after they
were told that more than the expected numbers had turned up for
the event. The men had come from stations throughout the country
at their own expense and were angry that they had been made to come
all the way to Colombo for no reason at all when they should be
attending to more pressing matters.
Birth
anniversary sans family
The 105th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike
was commemorated throughout the country on January 8. However conspicuous
by their absence were many members of the Bandaranaike family and
the organizers of the events were overheard grumbling why they had
to shoulder the responsibility for such events when the family members
chose to stay away.
Not
quite apt comparison?
Comments by JVP Colombo district MP Wimal Weerawansa who
chose to compare Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's decision
to pull out of the peace process to that of a man taking home a
woman and having his way with her and handing her over to another
person after two years may have amused certain members of the press
present at the briefing but many others were annoyed and were wondering
why he couldn't come up with a better comparison to describe the
Premier's decision. |
