Ananda records only outright win

Ananda recorded the only outright win in the top division of the Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket matches played during the week ending Friday (January 9) when they registered their second successive outright win within a space of one week defeating St Peter's by an innings and 138 runs.

In the other matches played during the week there were some noteworthy individual performances coupled with the highest and lowest scores made by teams. The highlight of the week was that two double centuries were scored first by Piliyandala Central's Dasun Ariyasinghe who cracked 208 against President's College Maharagama only to be by passed three days later by Dharmasoka skipper and Sri Lanka Youth player Upul Tharanga who slammed 213.

In the bowling department again it was a player from Piliyandala Central pacie Ramesh Padmika returning season's best figures of 9 for 60 against CWW Kannangara MMV Colombo. Going back to the matches played during the week Piliyandala Central who are playing in the division two recorded another outright win when they defeated CWW Kannangara MMV by eight wickets which was their fourth successive win in as many games.

Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda had the honour of recording the highest score for the season when they scored a massive 397 for 8 declared aganst Richmond while De Mazenod were bundled out for 36 by St Sebastian's which is the lowest score for the season.

Ananda vs St Peter's at Ananda Mawatha
Ananda had no difficulty in registering an innings win over St Peter's. Helped by a superb 113 by Thilina Kumarasinghe and some useful knocks from the lower order batsman they made a massive 362 for 6 declared. And the Peterites had no answer to some accurate bowling by A. Ranasinghe who had figures of 5 for 23 to be bowled out for 111 and sent into bat again the Peterites had to face the same music with three bowlers A. Ranawaka (4/26), S. Senanayake (3/15) and R. Wimaladharma (3/25) combining well to bundle them out for 113.

Piliyandala Central vs President's Maharagama
This game ended in an innings and 33 runs win for the Piliyandala boys and in the process recording their fourth successive win. It also produced the first double centurion for the season in Dasun Ariyasinghe who hit a sparkling 208 which had 24 hits to the ropes and eight sixes supported by J. Rajapakse (85) enabling the side to score a mammoth 382. Piliyandala Central pacie Ramesh Padmika knocked the daylights of their opponents with match bag of 10 for 151 to bundle them out for 193 and 156. Padmika has taken 49 wickets from the four matches his school has played so far.

Dharmasoka vs Richmond at Galle
Dharmasoka Ambalangoda skipper Upul Tharanga was in devastating form when he cracked a swashbucklng 213 in just 160 balls which included 20 boundaries and nine towering sixes to help his side hit a mammoth 397 for 8 declared. Then opening bowler Dilan Anthony with figures of 7 for 53 rattled the Richmondites for 125. Following on the Richmondites fared better to end the day on 200 for 6 with the match ending in a first innings win for Dharmasoka.

Isipathana vs St. Sylvester's at Havelock Park
Isipathana came back from a hopeless situation to register a first innings win over St Sylvester's. Taking first lease of the wicket on day one the Isipathanians scored a modest 208 and the Sylvesterians made bold reply of 74 for 1. Resuming on day two the Isipathanians came back to bundle their opponents for 122 thanks to some fine bowling by Pubudu Tharaka (3/19), Sanjaya Dilruksha (3/22) and Chatushka Wickramaratne (2/18).

St Sebastian's vs De Mazenod at Moratuwa
De Mazenod Kandana had to face the agony of being bundled out for the lowest score of the season when they were bowled out for 36. but fared better in the second innings to make 192. The match ending in a first innings win for St Sebastian's who made 212 for 8 declared with Under 17 Sri Lanka Youth Player making an unbeaten 73.

DSS vs Nalanda at Wijerama Mawatha
Nalanda escaped another defeat at the hands of D.S. Senanayake who were unfortunate to fall short by 27 runs. Nalanda taking first lease of the wicket scored 180 and DSS in reply helped by two good knocks from Pubudu Perera (84) and Dinesh de Silva (52) made a challenging 285 for 8 declared. DSS chasing a victory target of 118 in just 11 overs ended on 84 for 6.
