His
days are numbered
A protest had been organised in Jaffna to coincide with
Independence Day. The previous night, the chief organiser was in
the company of those opposed to the protest and was in high spirits
after boozing late into the night. So he slept late the next morning
and the result was the protest was a non-starter. The next day too,
some of the men who had kept him company the previous night tried
coaxing him to take more of the same but he was stopped from doing
so by some of his other friends. One thing is for sure, he won't
be the chief organiser of many more protests.
Gluttons
beware!
A private hospital recently carried out health checks of Parliament
employees. The results were not very favourable. Many were suffering
from high cholesterol levels as well as high blood pressure and
the majority with the maladies were attached to the catering department
of the legislature. Some of them were wondering whether the MPs
too should be subject to such checks given the heavily subsided
meals they enjoy on a regular basis.
Definitely
not final
A recent correspondence, via e-mail, with an official
of a Cabinet minister dealing with technology resulted in the receipt
of rather an amusing reply by a business correspondent of The Sunday
Times. The journalist was referred to as Dear Mr. Final when the
actual name is close but definitely not final.
