Instability led to Rs. 250 m. loss says PM
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared that investment
to the tune of 250 million rupees had been lost to the country due
to the political instability.
Speaking
to business leaders at Temple Trees on Friday Mr. Wickremesinghe
said that the government was continuing its efforts to get back
the investment which had been lost during this period.
He
siad that the Free Trade Agreement to be signed between the US and
Sri Lanka will be a good opportunity to the business sector and
to youths expecting new jobs, but added that suspicion over the
SLFP- JVP alliance has slowed down activities to some extent.
Explaining
the cohabitation talks between him and the President, the Prime
Minister said the Mano-Malik committee has submitted some proposals
and apart from this steps are to be taken where the PA and the UNF
will work in conjunction in the future.
He
said that such cohabitation talks will continue as lasting peace
is a vital necessity for the country's future development. “The
LTTE are moving away from war and we should accept the international
stance on this issue”, he said.
The
Prime Minister declared that before the the special meeting on February
17 in Washington where representatives of the donor countries will
meet to review providing aid pledged during the donor conference,
he was trying to reach an agreement with the President through the
Mano-Malik committee. Mr. Wickremesinghe called on the business
sector to come forward and engage themselves in investment activities. |
