Thurstan crush Revatha MMV to record their first
outright win
The Thurstanites recorded their first outright win in the ongoing
inter-school cricket tournament when they crushed Revatha MMV Balapitiya
by an innings and 177 runs. This was incidentally the only outright
win recorded from the matches played for the week. Of the other
matches played during the week, the high riding Isipathanians continued
their winning spree when they overcame fancied St. Sebastian's on
the first innings.
Meanwhile
the Josephians maintained the lead in Group 'A' followed by Ananda,
Prince of Wales, Lumbini and Isipathana who jumped from the eight
position. While in the Group 'B' St Anne's Kurunegala replaced St
Mary's Kegalle who were the leaders for the last two weeks with
Rahula College Matara, Trinity and Sri Jayawardenapura MMV Kotte
following them.
Thurstan
vs Revatha MMV
The Thurstanites crushed the hapless Revatha MMV who are
making their debut in the top division by an innngs and 177 runs.
An unbeaten century by Shehan Perera and two more half centuries
by Thilina Masmulla and Indika Galagoda laid the foundation in Thurstan
making a masive 333 for 5 declared and had Revatha reeling on 24
for 4 on day one. Resuming on day two the Thurstanites made short
work and dismissed their opponents for 63. Revatha MMV left with
a deficit of 270 runs were sent into to bat again but were unable
to make much improvement and were bundled out for 93.
Isipathana
vs St Sebastian's
The Isipathanians had the Sebastianites on nine pins when
they sent them reeling on 32 for 7 in reply to their score of 223
on the opening day. It was pacie Tharaka Waduge with figures of
4 for 12 being the cause of the Sebastian debacle. An interesting
finish was on the cards on day two with the Sebastianites needing
another 91 runs to face the agony of being invited to bat again.
But fight back they did and recovered to make 135 thanks to Lahiru
Antony and Jehan Fernando. Waduge added two more scalps to end with
figures of 6 for 31. Isipathana batting for the second time made
130 which left St Sebastian's a target of 219 to win and ended the
game on 131 for 5.
Prince
of Wales vs Dharmapala
Prince of Wales though making a mammoth 361 for 6 had
to be satisfied with a first innings win over Dharmapala. By batting
almost the whole day on the opening day they spoilt their chances
of gaining an outright win.
Ananda
vs Maliyadeva
It was a high scoring game where the Anandians helped
by an unbeaten 153 from J. Sriyapala making an imposing 325 for
7 declared and not to be outdone Maliyadeva replied with 257 with
two half centuries coming from V. Soysa and S. Karunanayake. Ananda
batting the second time helped by two half centuries by P. Boteju
and A. Athulathmudali made 202 for 2.
St
John's vs Sri Rahula
A six wicket haul by skipper Tharanga Ravin helped St
John's Panadura to record a first innings win over Sri Rahula Katugastota.
St John's defended their modest score of 166 thanks to Tharanga
with figures of 6 for 36 which enabled to bowl out their opponents
for 137. St John's batting the second time made 189 setting the
visitors a target of 219 to win. Sri Rahula ended the day on 89
for 2.
Raddoluwa
MMV vs Joseph Vaz
Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa the other team that is making their
debut in the top division is also finding the going tough at the
top level. This time becoming the victim of Raddoluwa MMV at Katunayake.
An allround performance by Gayas Christopher who first made 75 supported
by another 72 from Lakmal Sanjeewa in helping Raddoluwa MMV score
243 for 9 declared.
