SLMM
settles row with Navy
The Sri Lanka Navy has given the greenlight to the Sri Lanka Monitoring
Mission to be on board and carry out monitoring following discussions
between SLMM Chief Trond Furuhovde and Navy Commander Daya Sandagiri
on Friday.
Earlier
the Navy refused access to the SLMM after the monitors forcefully
accompanied a Navy ship to intercept an LTTE arms boat.
The
incident sparked off controversy and led President Chandrika Kumaratunga
to seek the removal of the then SLMM Chief Tryggve Teleffesson.
Maj.
Gen Furuhovde earlier this week met President Chandrika Kumaratunga
and is meeting other service commanders as well. |
