Runaway
investor
One evening, a foreign investor, heavily in debt, casually drove
to the Colombo airport and took a flight out of the country leaving
his car behind at the airport parking lot. Next day employees of
his garment factory learnt their boss had disappeared. The car had
been mortgaged. Workers are still trying to get compensation for
loss of employment. A trade unionist related this tale at a recent
panel discussion on HR and industrial unrest.
In
the loop
Is it true that a top official of a bank in the news over the debts
of a powerful businessman had once been in his payroll for professional
services?
Not constitution
In last week's entry on a J-Biz meeting with Prime Minister
Ranil Wickremesinghe, the PM's response (and the question) should
have read … "I am not ready to abolish the presidency"
- not "constitution" - as reported. The error is regretted.
Muddled IT
The world's largest IT firm had second thoughts about Sri
Lanka - after a mega splash about its entry - due to the political
climate. However they were coaxed into coming here. |
