Refugee
camp burnt down
The largest refugee camp at Poonthotam in Vavuniya was gutted by
a massive fire yesterday, police said. They said one child was injured
in the incident.
At
the time of the incident, there were more than 5,000 refugees.
The moment the fire broke out, the adults and children had run out
of the camp, shouting for help.
A
section of the camp had been totally destroyed, and one refugee
had sustained injuries. Since the camp was set up in 1999, around
10,000 refugees had sought refuge in the camp at various times. |
