SC
Judges to see SB video tape
Supreme Court judges are to see the video tape of a speech made
by Minister S.B. Dissanayake in November last year before advising
the Attorney General on a course of action regarding contempt charges.
Legal
sources said the video tape of Mr. Dissanayake's speech at a Habaraduwa
Vap Magul ceremony had been obtained from Rupavahini.
Three
residents of Unawatuna sent a petition regarding the alleged contempt
and the Chief Justice has asked for an inquiry by a full bench of
the Supreme Court.
In
June 2000, Mr. Dissanayake faced a similar case of contempt but
the Supreme Court discharged him after warning him to be mindful
that he did not speak in a manner that affected the dignity of the
court. |
