Sri
Lanka included in professional golf circuit
The indefatigable Sriyan de Soysa has been shouting from the rooftops
about a signal achievement he has reached to get Sri Lanka included
in the prestigious Indian Professional Golf Association circuit.
He richly deserves the pack of accolades for his years of perseverance
to get this immense recognition. Now this will be a stepping stone
to greater heights to reach the Asian Professional Golf Association
Circuit. We feel assured of picking this special honour with our
world class courses, exceptional organizing skills and at least
4 players who can match the best standards of Asian golfers.
We
have been recognized and invited to be one 'leg' of this 20 event
contest and the Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club is the
venue chosen for the Hero Honda 2004 contest. To earn this recognition
our players particularly Nandasena Perera and Lalith Kumara have
notched victories (Silver Medals) at the Asian Games and additionally
our players have won title events in India, Pakistan Bangladesh,
Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
An
absolute honour for our country our leg is going to consolidate
the future of our golf in the Asian Region. Our Golfers, the Sri
Lanka Golf Union & Sriyan de Soysa need support to meet the
demands of this fabulous event and we urge the Government and the
private sector to move into the rescue operation when the appeal
for support comes.
Lalin
wins WIDAC classic
WIDAC promoted the recent stroke play competition at the
Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club superbly. The frills were
all designed by attractive Interior Decorator Chandi Alles. Unobtrusively
in the background Primal Wijenayake moved watching the scene and
nodding his head in approval. Over 14 dozen participants enjoyed
the benefit of a skillfully organized event from crack of dawn up
to and through an elastic afternoon.

to take the classic from 'stormy weather' Nirmal Hettiarachchi who
settled for 71 nett.

off excellently with a super nett 65 to take a one shot lead over
Anil Pieris who was impressive with nett 67.

method and came off with a remarkably good score of nett 65 to take
the "C" Division Trophy from Malik Wickremanayake who
was quite bright with a pleasing nett 67.
Gymkhana
events
Joe Perera who was planning to celebrate was whacked off
the course by vigilant M.R. Thabrew who shot a neat & tidy nett
67 to Joeboy's nett 70. The two celebrated treating each other after
the event for seniors.
Masters
Following the excellent round of nett 65 M. Meevanapalana
amply qualified to take the Masters Trophy much to his delight.

for the Blue Black & Blue Walk. It is reported that he enjoyed
the walk immensely having taken a short cut.
PoolistsOur
Caddies turned Amateurs are calling the shots and inviting attention.
B.A. Rohan sparked to a great 3 under par gross 68 to beat J.M.L.
Indika on 69. Great performances and most praiseworthy. Good performers
Huharb Sangani, Shiran de Soysa, Kirubha Kumarakulasingham, Ananda
Jayasekera and Bandula Weerasinghe played impressively through deprived
of Trophies in Division 'B'. While S.Y. Kim, S.M.A. Hameed, S. Vethavinayakam,
Priya Samarasinghe and Caesar Fernando played most rewarding rounds.
DisasterStacks
were trapped in this area mowing through ponds and contributing
a harvest to the pond boys, knocking tree trunks, smashing cover
crop and peppering the roofs of our neighbours. All of them claim
that the experience of disaster can be pleasurable - after all most
of them are 'tenter hocks'. WIDAC sponsorship was styled as hellishly
good. |
