Revelation in Colombo
The popular cover band “Revelation” is back in town after a successful contract in Dubai. The six piece award winning band is managed by the vocalist Shean Dharmaratne, who himself bagged the award as the number two rated singer in the United Arab Emirates. After being the first live cover band to win an International Band Competition, ‘Revelation’ is here in Colombo to promote their music.

“We have only been together for a several months, and we consider ourselves as beginners in the field”, says the very humble and modest singer who certainly is way ahead of the rest we have seen and heard.

“We feel very fortunate to win such awards competing with bands from UK, USA, Canada and South Africa and the Philippines,” said Shean when inquired about their recent wins. “The experience is priceless”.

Shean said the guitar loving audience will love watching the band’s star Zion de Silva, who happens to be the first and only “Seven String” lead guitarist in Sri Lanka. He is an amazing “Rock Guitar” player who had a huge following in UAE.

“Revelation” is led by the keyboard maestro Kosala Perera, a very versatile musician, who also takes a hand in rhythm and bass guitar. “He directs the music and sound in the band,” claims Shean.

Senior music lovers rocked to the drumming of late Mohan Sabaratnam, a legend in his time played with Upekha and Spitfires. Well brace yourself the new generation of music cravers, his only son Diren Sabaratnam in his first band “Revelation” is making heads bang at a rate and got his own following for his “wicked” rapping abilities.

Making new vibes with “Revelation” is the new addition to the band Iqbal Asaan (from award winning rock band Kreb’s Cycle) on bass guitar and rhythm. He replaces Nalin Samath who flew back to Dubai to join the family. “Iqbal has an unbelievable ear and he’s blending in and developing our styles very fast,” said Shean when asked how he’s coping with the change.

Billie, one of the most talented musicians in the island as Shean refers (Bathiya & Santush, Ezra and Acid Rain) joins them in special performances and Shean praised him for the support. The band features Sherry (ex Kingsand Damage) on female vocals. “She’s a good rock singer, Sherry joined us in Dubai in November and undergoing training with us”.

This band knew how to make people listen to their music and if the attention was not there 100%, Shean would use his extraordinary showmenship and talking ability to get the crowd with them, also to occasionally “scream and shout along” to his command also sing along. He was definitely “rocking the joint”. And the crowd went fanatic over their “Vannam” version of Santana along with Sri Lankan “Tammatams”.

“Revelation” belts out an amazing repertoire of the best of Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Reggae, R&B and the best from the 60’s and 70’s. They also play a huge session of rock & roll, and dance music along with top chart hits.
The band performs at Clancy’s every Tuesdays, Fridays and Thursdays at ‘Rhythm and Blues’.
