Mithun
takes Taiwan trophy in style
Mithun Nandasena the prodigy, son of Maestro Nandasena Perera playing
off a handicap of 3 was in devastating form dictating a terrific
42 point victory in the stableford competition organized by the
Taiwanese Business Association and promoted by popular businessman
Wenders Shieh. A rousing success the day's outing at the Ridgeways
attracted 15 dozen golfers.
Outstanding
Apart from Mithun there were a few others who performed
creditably. Lalith Ramanayake, Mohan Ratnayake, Dhevan Peiris played
attractive golf. Paul Bishop was great settling closest to the pin
on the 9th with massive guidance from the omnipotent. Chamath Kulasinghe
was equally blessed and anointed with magical oil to help him settle
closest to the pin on the 16th. Arshad Ahamed's drive was almost
jet propelled to take off and land 389yds from the pin and finally
Mrs. H.R. Bang banged a great collection of tee shots to pocket
37 points.
All
these and a few others were handsomely rewarded with elaborate trophies.
For a special occasion and a special performance Joseph Sebhatu
smiled all the way to collect a special award.
Awards
The ceremony was quite lively and fun filled with Primal
Wijenayake comparing quite successfully. The Ambassador for Myanmar
Than Tun, Korean Ambassador Nee Nam So and Malaysian High Commissioner
Iskander Sarudin distributed the awards together with Wenders Shieh
Charley Huang & Sarath Piyaratne.
The
Oriental Buffet Dinner was as classy as you can get them. The pride
of Scotland was loosely available and more loosely consumed. The
music produced a few golden oldies but excessively loud. Sarath
Piyaratne softened the tone and played a redeeming feature with
an impressive speech, a great finish to a rewarding year of excellent
Stewardship as Captain of the Royal Colombo Golf Club. He received
a strong round of applause and so did Wenders Shieh for a stylish
promotion.
Disaster
Not to be left out were those who relished their moments
in the disaster zone of absolute distress. Elmo de Silva, Tissa
Wickremasinghe, M. Meevanapalana, Haren Dias, Avind Mahendra and
a small crop of others. They beamed all afternoon, smiled through
the pleasurable evening giving no indication that their play affected
their spirit. Typical golfers enjoying the deep pleasure of the
noble game. |
