Thomians win big match prelude

S. Thomas' celebrated the return of their experienced players skipper
Kaushal Silva( 69 not out) and right arm leg spinner V. Balasubremanium
( 4 for 35) in to the side by powering their way into an innings
and 30 run win over Dharmasoka in their "big match" prelude
at Mt. Lavinia yesterday. In reply to Dharmasoka's first innings
total of 143, S. Thomas' continuing from their overnight total of
188 for 2 declared at 331 for 6 at lunch with skipper Kaushal Silva
and Ashan Peiris (67) caving into the Ambalangoda attack. Earlier
Isuru Warnakulasuriya top scored for S. Thomas' with an attractive
knock of 97 runs.
Batting
for the second time Dharmasoka did better than in their first innings,
but, failed against the spin bowling of Balasubramanium to crash
to 158 all out in 55.4 overs and thus giving the Thomians their
third outright win for the season.
