Extend
postal voting, says JVP
The JVP has requested the Elections Commissioner to extend the date
of postal voting so that those who were unable to cast their votes
will have the opportunity to vote. This was conveyed in a letter
to the Commissioner by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva.
It
has been revealed that out of 286,624 who had applied for postal
voting, half of them had not been able to cast their votes due to
varied reasons. Accordingly more than 20,000 Army, Navy, Air Force
and Police personnel had not been able to cast their votes.
Sources
said that out of 52,585 Army personnel who had applied for postal
voting, 16,435 have not even been informed about the postal voting
by their superiors.
It
is said that this was the first time that such a large number of
Army personnel had been denied their voting rights at one time. |
