JKH
chief back, keeps low profile
John Keells Holdings chairman Vivendra Lintotawela is back after
a lengthy stay in India for medical treatment but is keeping a low
profile after the rumours of a shake-up in the management of the
conglomerate that was triggered by his overseas trip.
Lintotawela's
office said he had declined requests for an interview and he was
not available for comment on the telephone. His trip to India for
what senior company officials said was further treatment after heart
bypass surgery last year led to a spate of rumours that he was stepping
down.
The
reports said the top management was under pressure from certain
big shareholders such as foreign fund managers to improve the company's
profitability in terms of its size and capital base.
However,
senior KKH executives dismissed these reports and said the company
was performing according to expectations and that shareholders had
not expressed dissatisfaction in the way it was managed. |
