Observers
unhappy over lack of media access for all
European Union election observers who monitored the Friday's general
election have expressed concern whether there was equal media access
to all parties during the election campaign.
EU
Chief Observer John Cushnahan said that a number of key aspects
which have caused concern are being examined, such as whether or
not there was equal access to the media for all parties and reports
that all the parties were not able to campaign freely in the North
and the East.
He
said that it would seem that polling has taken place in an atmosphere
where there has been a lower level of violence than in the last
election and that the fact that there was no curfew is a confirmation
of this.
He
noted that there has been less violence during the overall 2004
election campaign. However, he said that with over 1500 incidents
of violence reported up to yesterday there is no room for complacency. |
