assisting veteran director, K. A. W. Perera in his film ‘Durga’.
Having assisted in many films and teledramas Nihal began playing
minor roles in a number of films and lead roles in several one episodic
teledramas.
The
story in ‘Avurudu Samaya’ revolves around the two neighbourhood
families of Ranjith and Sirimanne. Both the families have young
daughters who are intimate friends.
Ranjith
runs a business while Sirimanne is a public servant. Sirimanne is
addicted to drink and his drinking has caused regular disputes within
the family. These problems result in Sirimanne’s wife leaving
with the children.
The
story starts when Sirimanne’s wife and the children left him
once more. The move was after she had come to know that her husband
has mortgaged the house to find money for his drinking and this
time the separation had taken quite long time.
Ranjith’s
daughter has been affected very badly when she finds her close friend
missing for a long time. She has refused even her food and she is
mentally affected. And this has led Ranjith’s family in to
misery.
Ranjith,
a close friend of Sirimanne whose advice he sought whenever there
was a problem in his family found himself helpless as there was
no one to tell of his problems. Hoping to console the daughter Sirimanne
arranges a big birthday party but it became useless as her best
friend wasn’t there. Having taken the daughter to a ‘Hamuduruwo’
for counselling and to a doctor for medical treatment, Ranjith is
advised to unite the two friends. Meanwhile Sirimanne seeks relief
for his problem in the bottle.
Amidst
all these the Sinhala New Year is fast arriving. How are the two
families going to celebrate the New Year? Who will bring it to them?
The major roles in Avurudu Samaya are played by Janak Premalal,
Nayana Kumari, Ajith Lokuge, Seetha Kumari and Ridma Tharangani.
