Evolving
Revolutions
Revolution of Sounds, a rock show
with a difference, promises to kick start the coming weekend for
you. Ishani Ranasinghe meets one of its organisers.
Revolution of Sounds III is a must-attend event. Meeting up with
one of the organisers for a chat we got the opportunity to find
out a little more about this concert.
For
most of us ‘Revolution of Sounds’ rings a bell. “We
had this twice before, the first being in 2000,” says project
co-chairperson Dasith Fernando. On the previous occasions the concert
had been exclusively for the ‘head bangers’ of Colombo
but this time around things are going to change. As ‘Revolution
of Sounds III’ hits Colombo this time the organisers promise
that it will be much more than a rock concert.
Organising
this year’s ‘Revolution of Sound’ the Interact
Club of S. Thomas’ College have decided to add a bit of variety.
This way they feel they will be catering to a larger audience, “and
not leave anyone out.”
“The
response we have got for the past two concerts have been really
good,” says Dasith adding that he feels that over the years
the interest has only increased. As for what’s in store for
the audience who make it to ‘Revolution of Sounds’,
Dasith promises that there will be some amazing performances that
will definitely be a crowd thriller. “We’ve got bands
that are in the limelight at present,” he added.
They
say variety is the spice of life and the organisers have tried their
best to have this in their line up with a fusion of music, dance
and drama. The music for the evening will be provided by two much
talked-about bands Soul Skinner and Paranoid Earthling. There will
also be an acoustic performance by the students of Wycherley International
School. Also on the cards for the evening will be solo performances
by Devashree, a past winner of the Showboat Karaoke Championship,
and J-Nil.
There
will be dances by the students of Colombo International School and
Asian International School and also a solo performance by Jude.
Your evening of entertainment does not end there – there’s
even going to be a drama performed by the students of St. Bridget’s
Convent. “I wanted something that would make people laugh,”
says Dasith explaining why he insisted on them performing a comedy.
Feeling that the drama will bring about that added touch of variety
to the evening, Dasith said that this was what made ‘Revolution
of Sound’ unique this time around. “I can guarantee
that people will not be bored,” he adds laughing.
So
what has it been like to organise a project of this nature?
“It has been a bit tiring but it has also been so much fun
that at the end of the day the effort has been worth it,”
says an enthusiastic Dasith. He adds that a percentage of the proceeds
will go to the School Facility Development Fund while the rest of
it will be used for the Health Camp they plan on organising later
this year.
Revolution
of Sounds III will come alive on April 30, at the Bishop’s
College Auditorium. Tickets for this concert will be priced at Rs.200.
