Opposition
now goes for House Leader post
Fresh from its victory over the post of Speaker, the joint parliamentary
opposition is preparing to propose a candidate for the post of Leader
of the House.
Opposition
sources told The Sunday Times that the Leader of the House should
be an MP who would command the support of the majority MPs in Parliament,
and not necessarily the leader of the party with the single most
seats in the House.
These
sources said that the candidate so proposed would be someone other
than UNF leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who would remain Leader of
the Opposition.
The
unprecedented step, if implemented, is bound to cripple the new
UPFA government in Parliament - already hamstrung without a working
majority or a Speaker of its choice. |
