Rs.
50 m. offered as bribes: JHU
By Santhush Fernando
Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) monks were offered over Rs. 50 million
if they voted in favour of the United People's Freedom Alliance
(UPFA) nominee for Speaker's post, JHU General Secretary Ven. Uduwe
Dhammaloka Thera, charged yesterday.
He
claimed that in addition to money, offers were also made to reconstruct
temples, if they voted in favour of the UPFA candidate. The Ven.
Dhammaloka Thera said there were offers from the opposition also
to woo their votes, but most of the offers came from the UPFA.
UPFA
General Secretary Susil Premjayantha made no comment on the allegations
of bribes being offered by government members but said that new
anti-corruption laws are to be introduced soon to deal with the
situation. |
