Mahanama
makes debut as ICC referee
Former
Sri Lanka test and one day player Roshan Mahanama will make his
debut as a ICC match refree when he officiates in the West Indies-Bangladesh
series in May.Mahanama who was a member of Sri Lanka’s world
cup winning team in 1996 played 52 tests and 213 one dayers before
retiring from the game in 1999.
The
37 year old stylish right hander was appointed to the ICC elite
panel of match referees in March this year and will be the match
referee for the two tests and three one dayers between West Indies
and Bangladesh to be played in the Carribean islands this month.
Following
his retirement from international cricket in 1999 Mahanama had a
short stint as the coach of Sri Lanka A. He was also appointed by
Sri Lanka Cricket as a member of the bowling advisory group. However
soon after being appointed to the ICC panel of match refrees,Mahanama
resigned from the bowling advisory group citing a conflict of interest. |
