Ratnasiri as Dy. Defence Minister?
The UPFA government is due to expand its list of Deputy Ministers bringing in more SLFP members. Two SLFP members are to be named through the UPFA National List and they will be immediately appointed as Deputy Ministers. They are former Premier Ratnasiri Wickramanayake who will be named Deputy Minister of Defence and Buddha Sasana while Mervyn Silva will be appointed Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Already UPFA national list nominee Janadasa Peiris has resigned paving the way for Mr. Wickrmanayake and Mary Lucida, wife of Mervyn Silva, will resign paving the way for her husband.

A Deputy Constitutional Affairs Minister is also to be appointed in addition to other proposed changes. The JVP has already been critical that in the case of some ministries two deputies have been appointed.

Meanwhile, two legal experts of the UPFA are contending for the position of Deputy Constitutional Affairs Minister. Dr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne and lawyer Wijedasa Rajapakse are these two contenders.
