Union Squash on May 16

Tamil Union Open Squash Tournament under the auspices
of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation and sponsored by Janashakthi
will be conducted for the second consecutive year.
The
venue will be the Tamil Union Squash Courts, at the P.Saravanamuttu
Stadium (formerly the Colombo Oval). The Sri Lanka Squash Federation
(SLSF) has already declared it as a National Ranking Tournament
in view of the excellent Squash Court facilities available.
At
the inaugural Tournament held last year, Navin Samarasinghe and
Nirasha Guruge won the Men's and Women's Open respectively. A high
turn out of entries and exciting Squash is expected at this years
event, with most of the seeded players being in top form aster their
SAF Games experience and as the National Pool will be training for
the Asian Senior Championships expected to take place in June 2004
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
With
last year's success, it is no doubt that this year too a large gathering
of squash enthusiasts in this country is expected. This year the
7 day long tournament will consist of 16 events which include Men
and Women's Opens, Men's Intermediate (over 35 years), Masters over
45, Boys and Girls under 11, 13 15, 17,19, and a plate event for
Men's Open losers. All winners and runners up will receive Janashakthi
trophies and certificates. Entries will be accepted at the Tamil
Union and Air Force Sports Complex till 5 p.m. on May 11 and the
draw will be held on the same day. The cut off date for the age
will be 22nd May 2004.
