‘Royal-Thomian
Cricket Carnival’ on CD from Rajiv
By Poorna Rodrigo
The Royal -Thomian Cricket Carnival recorded
live - the latest to hit the market by Rajiv and the Clan is indeed
a “mixed bag” with a bit of hard-to-forget Sinhala and
English old hits.
The
CD comprising four medleys has a bit of everything in it. It includes
some popular English songs of the good old days such as ‘Send
me the pillow’, ‘Blue Berry Hill’, ‘Do what
you do, do well’, ‘Save the Last Dance’, ‘Rhinestone
Cowboy’, Lemon Tree’ and ‘Ballad of John and Yoko’.
Not
forgetting the Sinhala music lovers, the second medley starts from
the song “Ese Madura Gee” and followed by ‘Nelum
Ville’ and ‘Shantha Me Reyame’, Yamuna’,
‘Podi None’, ‘Siripade’, ‘Pele Wasana
Ran Mali’ etc.
The
next medley is a segment of popular Baila including ‘Yaman
Bando’, ‘Irine Josephine’, ‘ Dompe Aaya’
Iskole Kale’ etc and the final part is only music of some
famous hits such as ‘Saints go marching in’ , ‘Indira’,
‘Me Rate Minissu’and ‘Rasa Ahara Kawala’
and ‘Te Pan Sadai’ .
The
use of Ginger’s voice especially for old Sinhala songs was
a welcome change. She surely has done a good job of it. The Royal
Thomian Carnival organised by the old school boys association living
abroad with an aptly name called “Exiles” was to celebrate
S. Thomas’ 125th anniversary.
Soon
after launching the CD, Rajiv Sebastian left for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
to play with “Aquarius” and straight from there back
at home for a dinner dance at ‘Earls’, where he performs
with his band.
On
the 25th of March he took off for another show in Kuwait- where
he performed for the second time and ended up with an invitation
to be there by the end of the year for another show.
Apart
for the show in London with the band “Sunflower” held
at the Country Club in early March, the Jordan tour where he performed
is “much rewarding” for Rajiv. Within a span of eight
days four shows were performed. The busy schedule apart, much more
is on the cards. On top of the list is a show with Annesley Malewana.
Two more CD’s are also to be released. |
