Drugs
short at Cancer Hospital
Reports of a drug shortage at the Sri Lanka Cancer Hospital has
raised concerns in healthcare circles last week.
According
to hospital sources, about five types of drugs, including the widely
used Tamoxifen variety have been in short supply. Stocks being held
up at the Medical Supplies Department of the Health Ministry appear
to be at the root of the problem. Health Ministry officials were
not available for comment.
However
the shortage hardly affects the in-house patients, a hospital spokesman
said confirming that outdoor-patients have been facing some shortages.
He said that supplies were being supplemented to a certain extent
by purchasing drugs 'locally'. |
