Government
persists with Ops. 113
By Harinda Vidanage
The government is continuing efforts to win support from the CWC,
the UPF and dissident SLMC members as part of the so-called Ops
113 operation, UPFA sources said.
They
said a ministerial committee appointed by President Kumaratunga
was working out a possible new deal with the CWC while Premier Mahinda
Rajapakse was reported to be in contact with UPF leader P. Chandrasekeran.
The
sources said that despite obstacles, negotiations were also continuing
with the dissident SLMC members Rishard Badurdeen and Najeeb Majid.
Meanwhile,
a petition signed by 114 opposition MPs is to be handed to Speaker
W. J. M. Lokubandara tomorrow, calling for action against some UPFA
MPs, including ministers who were allegedly involved in the attacks
on JHU Buddhist monks during the brawl in parliament on June 8. |
