SLAF
to buy fighter jets from China
By Palitha Ariyawansa
Air Force Commander Donald Perera said yesterday that in the event
of a war the SLAF might have to purchase more fighter aircraft,
though currently it was able to manage with the available fleet.
He
said the SLAF had decided to purchase three more K 8 aircraft to
replace the three aircraft damaged during the Katunayake attack
in July 2001.
Speaking
to journalists after a passing out parade of Air Force officers
at the Diyatalawa camp, he said the new aircraft would be brought
from China on easy payment terms over a period of six years.
