Frank
opinions
Asking for frank opinions could have its disadvantages. President
Kumaratunga recently wanted to know nothing but the truth - from
an assembly of teachers in her domain Attanagalla. The question
put to them was whether she should continue to be the country's
head. And if the President was expecting a presidential “yes”,
she was mistaken, when the teachers informed her that “it
was always better to resign with honour”. CBK was further
ruffled to hear 'salaries, salaries', being chanted in between CBK's
assurances that “she will never forget the teachers”.
Flexing
muscles
Flexing muscles is fast getting to be the order of the
day where Sri Lankan politics is concerned as confirmed by none
other than the new Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Mangala
Samaraweera. With government members standing accused of assaulting
the JHU monks in Parliament, Mr. Samaraweera when asked during last
week's Cabinet briefing how the government hopes to pass its bills
told a scribe “you do not worry about that, we will flex our
muscles at the correct time”. Yes, Mr. Minister but don't
you think the gymnasium is a better place for flexing muscles than
Parliament ?
Sans
internet
After much euphoria about tracking perpetrators of child
abuse, and briefing of the media about how they would trackdown
pornographic sites targeting local children, a key official supposed
to be tackling crime against children including child pornography
via internet, said he does not have an internet connection on his
office computer. |
