Twerenbold
wins Qatar classic
Qatar Airways came off proudly when they generously sponsored the
June stroke play competition last Saturday. They were lavish with
their airline tickets to destinations of the winners' choosing.
Curt
Twerenbold playing off 8 struck a stunning 3 under par nett 68 win
the "A" Division Classic beating Sunil Jayakody who had
a healthy round of nett 69. D.R. Evans and Michael Magala did well
with nett par rounds.
Tie
In the "B" Division Richard Gunewardena and
H.A.S. Madanayake struck nett 67 each but Gunawardena's more shapely
back nine gave him victory. Ferin Carrim on net 68, U. Tan Tun on
nett 69 and Wenders Sheih on nett 69 were quite impressive. There
were 10 centurions who raised absolute hell with Elmo de Silva in
the disaster zone.
Lalith
de Mel has invested his time wisely on the Ridgeway. Moving away
from a heavily packed 'In Tray' he relaxed on the Course to collect
a great nett 67 and much applause. Joe Perera came behind with an
excellent 69.
Masters
Curt Twerenbold won the prestigious event for Seniors
with 68 nett, beating Neil Chanmugam on net 71.
Poolists
Classy players with classy scores the poolists dominated
the Ridgeways. Rewarding the encouragement given to them Tissa Chandradasa
and Lalith Kumara cracked 68 each. They are playing terrific golf
much ahead of the other amateurs.
Vish
Impressive
Vish Govindasamy picked the best score on the par 3 holes.
He was so elated that he overstayed his hours at the 19th. Suranjan
de Silva was closest to the pin on the 9th. He refused to discuss
the distance. And finally, M. Mevanapalana struck the unique very
special shot off the 9th tee. Defying a strong cross breeze, his
shot bored through to settle on the green and move into the cup.
It is reported that Mevanapalana acknowledged the cheers with a
war dance of jubilation.
'C'
Division
In this Division Kusal Perera was violently jubilant to
record his first victory. He struck a great nett 67 to tie with
Lalith de Mel and win with a better back nine. T.A. Weerasinghe
did well with nett 70. There were quite a few centurions with the
beauties coming from the club heads of Lucian Ratnayake, Prasanna
Goonetilleke, S. Jegatheswaran and Shivantha de Zoysa. |
