Song
and dance for Kandalama anniversary

‘Soba Saraniya 2004’, an exhibition, music and theatre
presentation to mark the tenth anniversary of Kandalama Hotel will
come alive at the D.S. Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya on June 25 and
26.
Kandalama
Hotel, the only Green Globe certified hotel and one of the leading
Eco-friendly hotels in the country involved in community service
since its inception.
The
exhibition and the variety fair will feature different stalls from
other schools in the area as well as Medical Faculty in Peradeniya
University, Engineering and Agriculture Faculties, IT and satellite
station, Sri Lanka Tourism, Sri Lanka Police, Anti Narcotis Department,
Anti AIDS Unit of the Kandy National Hospital, Sri Lanka Hotels
School etc.
Prathiba
Ranga Dance Troupe of the School will be the main attraction of
the opening night. This dance troupe has won many medals and have
become the best in the province. Magic show and Police Kennel show,
‘Raja Sabawa’ are some of the other attractions.
‘Kandalama
Hotel is involved with many community development projects and D.S.
Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya Development is one of the top projects
of the hotel’, said Ravi Kurukulasuriya, Assistant Manager
of the Hotel.
‘We
have built a complete section of classrooms and now working on the
water and sanitary project of the School. We have restored electricity,
which was out of order for the pass eleven months’, Ravi went
on explaining the Hotel’s involvement.
Kandalama
Hotel has won the first global award for ‘Excellence of Service’
in the hotel industry and has been placed with the elitist top nine
hotels worldwide by CNN, American Express and Taylor Nelson Sofres
Hospitality and Leisure at the recently concluded awards ceremony
at the International Investment Forum, Berlin.
By
winning this outstanding award for the Indian Sub-Continent and
Indian Ocean regions, Kandalama Hotel now takes its place among
the world’s best.
Kandalama
Hotel was awarded “Green Globe 21 Certified Hotel” status,
the first of its kind in Asia, by meeting the requirements of Green
Globe 21 standards.
The
Green Globe 21 programme was inaugurated by the World Travel and
Tourism Council (WTTC) to bring specific focus on the promotion
of environmentally compatible development of the travel and tourism
industry worldwide as called for by Agenda 21 of the Rio Earth Summit
of 1992. |
