CBK
tells MPs: Hands off school admissions
President Chandrika Kumatunga has told ministers and MPs not to
interfere with school admissions and urged them to support government
officials in implementing policies regarding admissions.
The
President in a letter has outlined guidelines on which school admissions
were made and asked them to co-operate. The letter was sent after
the controversy over the admission of JVP MP Premasiri Manage's
son to Rahula Vidyalaya in Matara though the boy did not get the
qualifying marks.
Hitting
back at critics, cabinet spokesman Mangala Samaraweera last Thursdaay
accused UNF MPs and former ministers of illegally admitting children
to national schools.
The
Minister said they had details of former ministers sending letters
to leading schools to admit children or even convening meetings
to discuss school admissions. |
