Asian Yachting Regatta in hot waters?
By Pelham Juriansz
The South Asian Yachting Regatta (SAYR) being conducted at the Bolgoda
Lake between the host country Sri Lanka and neighbours India and
Pakistan ran into stormy waters yesterday.
At
the time of writing a protest had been made, as there was a problem
between two sailors (no details were being divulged as to the names
of the sailors or from which country they were) and when contacted
the officials of the Ceylon Motor Yachting Club (CMYC) at Bolgoda
they were wary to divulge information and just said "that a
protest had been made".
About
three officials were contacted and each passed the buck to the other
and refused to elaborate on the topic. Apparently 4 hours had been
spent at the time of getting the information and still the issue
had not been resolved.
The
coach of the Sri Lankan squad Lalin Jirasinha was busy resolving
the issue and Commodore of the Ceylon Motor Yachting Club (CMYC)
Joseph Kenny was uncontactable and so was Rohan Pethiyagoda, another
Committee member.
This
event was restarted after 23 years and it is a pity that such a
protest has occurred. The Optimist team event, which was concluded
on Friday, went ahead without any hitch but the problems occurred
in the Enterprise event. |
