‘Kekulu
Sina’: First kids karaoke in Lanka
In a society that has little or no time for children, comes forward
a young musician, Chaturanga Ranadatte to produce a cassette containing
songs for children.
‘Kekulu
Sina’, probably the first Sinhala children’s Karaoke
audio hit the music stores last week. Side A of the audio comprises
of ten kid’s songs. and Side B is the Karaoke of the same
songs. Children can sing-along and practice the songs found on the
other side (Side A).
The
songs have been written by Kusumalatha Navaratne (she has two children’s
books approved by the National Library Services Board to her credit)
and Pushkara Wanniarachchi.
Music
has been written by Chaturanga Ranadatte and Akhila Suren. Chaturanga
incidentally is the composer of the theme song of the 14th Asian
Athletics Games held in Sri Lanka and Football theme song of Sri
Lanka. He has composed 15 other Sinhala original songs, which are
to be released soon.
Speaking
to the TV Times, Chaturanga said, he wanted to create something
different and a little sophisticated from other children’s
songs. ‘Lyrics are meaningful and the music is definitely
not the kindergarten type,’ he said. ‘This was done
as I wanted the younger generation to cultivate good taste in music
and to train them to appreciate good music,’ Chaturanga concluded.
Themes
of the songs are varied and touch on nature ( rain, night, butterflies
), unity etc. Vocals for the cassette were handled by Surangi Anupama,
Ruchira Kurulugama, Supun Prasansitha and Anuradha. Some of the
songs were already receiving airplay on Sirasa and Visira radio
channels. Kekulu Sina Children’s Songs Karoke cassette is
available in all leading bookshops. |
