‘Amarapiyasara’
at BMICH
‘Amarapiyasara’ , a song and dance festival featuring
the best of Amaradeva comes alive on stage at BMICH on July 15 at
7.00pm. The show comprising the best and most famous songs within
Amanradeva’s 60 year span as a singer, composer and a musician
is “not going to be just another show”, said Samantha
Herath, a member of the organising committee.
Mr.
Herath said Amaradeva was inimitible in his style no matter how
other singers try to emulate him, it is impossible. Sunila Abeysekara,
Human Rights activist and who is also a member of the organsing
committee observed this show would bring back fond memories of the
good old days running back to the times when they were originally
sung while also giving a chance for the younger generation to enjoy
his songs.
Ms.
Abeysekara said Amaradeva on one hand drew the real essence of traditional
folk songs for his songs while as a young guy he used to sing “Baila”
with his favourite instrument being the violin - perhaps something
that his fans never knew. |
