killing: no clues yet
By Hiran Priyankara
Police teams investigating the demise of Ven. Saddhaseela Thera,
Viharadhipathi of Siri Mangalaramaya in Mahakumbukkadawala, Anamaduwa
in the mysterious fire that gutted his temple on July 10, have still
not been able to get any positive clues about the incident.
Buddhist
monks of the area said it was the first time that such an incident
took place where a temple had been set alight and a monk forced
to die in the fire.
Post
mortem details showed that the monk has died helplessly in the blaze.
People who rushed to the scene had tried hopelessly to put out the
fire and save the old monk. By the time the fire had been put out
the body of the monk had been charred beyond recognition.
The
last rites of the monk had been performed on July 14 amidst a crowd
of mourners. Police from Puttalam, Saliyawewa and Nawagattegama
stations were in attendance at the funeral ceremony graced by the
JHU MP Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera who said the act was a disgrace
to Buddhism and cannot be tolerated. |
