Top
officials busting up funds: JVP goes to President
Charging that some senior officials are busting up public funds
on private luxuries, the JVP is to formally protest to President
Chandrika Kumaratunga against the failure to appoint a joint committee
to make top level appointments and monitor the work of heads of
departments and corporations.
Party
sources said the appointment of such a committee was part of the
UPFA memorandum of understanding and JVP trade unions especially
had expressed dissatisfaction over some appointments and the performance
of these officials.
They
said several top appointments had been made without consulting the
JVP and the party was not happy with the work of some of those officials.
The sources said JVP trade unions already handed over details of
alleged mismanagement of funds by a number of chairmen appointed
by President Kumaratunga. These included the Transport Board, the
Ports authority, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and
the BOI.
According
to the JVP some of these officials have already spent huge amounts
of public funds on private luxuries. The JVP is also accusing some
top officials of appointing relatives of ministers to top positions,
some of them made with the influence of presidential advisor Mano
Tittewella. |
