Trinity
win in style, beat Isipathana 25-7
By Aubrey Kuruppu
Trinity gave a refreshing performance especially in the opening
half, to beat Isipathana by 25 points (1 goal, 3 tries and a penalty)
to 7 (a goal) at Bogambara yesterday.
The
Trinitians set the pace early when they worked the line off a maul
and speedy winger Niroshan Sanjeeva scored far right. Jayasena added
the extra points (7-0).
Isipathana
hit back about eight minutes later when their line clicked intoi
action. Winger Asitha who was heading for the line switched an inside
pass to centre Nalin Liyanage to score a dandy try. Fullback Manjula
prasad converted (7-7).
The
Isipathana defence was caught napping and Dhammika Senarath capitalised
on this to touch down just before half time which was taken at 12-07
in Trinity's favour.
Trinity
scored again early in the second half when Niroshan Sanjeeva scored
his second try. This was after the backs exchanged some short snappy
passes,. Jayasena failed to add the extra points (17-7).
Jayasena
added to Isipathana's woes by converting a simple penalty. However,
prior to that, the lads from Havelock Town camped in Trinity territory
but try as they might, they found it difficult, to go over the line.
Trinity certainly had some anxious moments, with a few five yard
scrums. But to their credit, the defence held. Flanker S.N. Ching
scored on the stroke of time tomake the scoreline more impressive.
Trinity had an indifferent second half though scoring 13 points
and the fitness factor was the key. Isipathana's back division tried
to vary the pattern with some fancy play. But this was just not
their day.
