Namal Pathirage reporting from Athens
"Even if George Bush asks me I am not in a position to take
part," said Sri Lanka sprint ace Susanthika Jayasinghe after
brushing aside a request made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse
to reconsider her stance in taking part at the Olympics.
The
Prime minister made this request when he met the Lankan contingent
at the Sri Lanka consulate in Athens but sprint queen who won a
'bronze' in the 200-metres event at the 2004 Sydney Olympics turned
down the request.Expressing his views, Mr Rajapakse said he was
disappointed, but it was only she who knew the gravity of her injury.
"I had a lengthy chat with her and I do not think we should
pressurise her too much."
Susanthika
is leading the Sri Lankan contingent at the Olympics Games, but
says she cannot compete because of injury. |
