No
proof against LTTE, says SLMM
By Frances Bulathsinghala
With uncertainty over the dates of a meeting between
the military and the LTTE in Batticaloa to discuss the security
situation in the east, acting SLMM chief Hagrup Haukland said they
had 'no proof' of the accusations levelled against the LTTE.
The
meeting will discuss mainly the recent killings, which according
to SLMM total 27 within August in the Batticaloa district alone.
"We will focus on the issue of assassinations. We will bring
up questions as to why no witnesses are coming forward to give evidence
regarding the killings. This is one of the biggest problems we have
in proving assassinations suspected to be carried out by the LTTE,"
Mr. Haukland said.
"We
hope to push for more regular meetings between the LTTE and the
military," he said but refrained from stating how closely the
meetings would be spanned. |
