Lankan
leads jumbo study group
Jayantha Jayewardene, a well-known Sri Lankan elephant conservationist,
is leading a group of 13 Asian elephant conservationists on a study
tour of Kenya this week, aimed at learning how it tackles the human-elephant
conflict.
This
is as a result of an international symposium on Human-Elephant Relationships
and Conflicts held in Colombo in 2003. Iain Douglas Hamilton, a
world-famous elephant conservationist living and working in Kenya,
invited a group in Asia on elephant conservation to visit Kenya
and learn from its experiences. |
