Dias wins Dialog GSM Trophy
Dialog GSM co-sponsored the 125th anniversary celebrations of the
Royal Colombo Golf Club just concluded. It was a massive effort
which was enormously successful. Hans Wijesuriya, the buoyant Chief
Executive of Dialog, an eloquent speaker expressed his distinct
pleasure in extending support towards the milestone event in the
history of the Royal Colombo Golf Club. He said, "We shall
support Golf whenever possible and we look forward to the next occasion".
Loud appreciative applause followed.
Awards
The Award Ceremony was fun filled and absolutely posh
in style and much credit to the indefatigable Zarina Rahim for her
classy and splendid organising skills. Kumar de Silva compered a
crowded and varied programme quite skilfully.
Visitors
The celebrations were packed to capacity - strongly represented
by several visitors from Royal Clubs. The chief guest was Harry
McCaw, the amiable and most genial past captain of the Royal &
Ancient of St. Andrews supported by his charming wife Brigit. The
Stableford Competition was outstandingly successful with returns
of excellent scores.
New
on the scene golfing Ambassador U. Tan Tun played an extremely impressive
round. Excellent off the tee and quite positive on the greens he
collected 40 points and a handsome trophy from Harry McCaw. A.H.
Sheriffdeen now come to be known as "Mr. Runner-up" once
again failed to clinch the trophy beaten by a slender one point.
He was popular at the award ceremony receiving prolonged applause
which he acknowledged with a gentle bow. Dr. H. Boralessa, brother
of Captain Kumar visiting from UK was quite impressive too and came
a close third. In the disaster zone there were stacks of messing
around. Riddled with aqua phobia three Doctors Shelton Jayasinghe,
P.N. Thenabadu and Hemal Fernando failing to diagnose their own
ailments were securely stuck in the mess.
Ladies
Little L. Dharmaratne was overjoyed with an amazing 45-point
victory and she much deserved a pretty trophy and loud applause.
Jackie Dias had a creditable round to win the gross score event.
Main
event
Elegant left-hander C. Thurairaja won the classic beating
an outstanding player Bandula Weerasinghe by one point.
Accolades
Much credit to Dialog GSM for a gorgeous party, Cocktails,
Cabarets and Dinner. Zarina Rahim handled the fun-filled night in
