‘Cross Section’ ready to take the season by storm
Popular band ‘Cross Section’ is back in Lanka after a tour of Overseas. ‘Cross Section’ is led by Antoinette de Alwis, a popular singer and Rodney Rabat, guitarist/singer. Other members of the band are Hilary Christie on keyboards, Timal Jayamanne bass, Raj Emmanuel on drums and Dilip Seneviratne on keyboards.

Antoinette and Rodney were former members of the Peter Prins Combo - a popular band in the dance scene. Peter Prins (Pianist) retired from band work and Antoinette and Rodney continued the band work under the name Cross Section with Raj Emmanual, a former member of the Peter Prins Combo, and new personnel Hilary, Timal and Dilip. The band continues to play at many dances, mostly weddings and private functions.

Antoinette is an acknowledged singer and a popular name in the dance band scene, also leads a choir in her parish church. Her wide repertoire from the early years of evergreens, standards, pop hits, soul, r & b contemporary is amazing. She has the uncanny versatility to adjust and sing any song at any given moment.

Before she joined Peter Prins she led her own dance band Antoinette and the Gaylords. Rodney is a guitarist/vocalist and an accomplished musician is equally wide in his repertoire at songs. He too led a pop band in the early years before he decided to join the Peter Prins Combo and now in Cross Section in an added strength.

Raj, a slick drummer who keeps the band together with his artistry and tackles most of the baila songs for the band. Hilary is a versatile musician, pianist and Keybordist who has led his own band trio and now freelances which has given him added popularity. A singer as well his fund of songs stretches from the early years till today. The youngest member of the Group Dilip is a keyboardist/singer adds more colour to Cross Section with his repetoire at contemporary hits.

Timal is a bassist who now finds himself in an exciting world of music, keeping the beat for an energetic band of musicians. ‘We play a lot of dances and special gigs and our music is comparatively old music from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Current songs are not very much in our repertoire’ Antonette said.
