GMOA
wants fight against mosquitos coordinated
With malaria, dengue, filariasis and Japanese encephalitis raising
their heads in many parts of the country, the Government Medical
Officers Association has decided to pressurize the government into
coordinating the activities of all units dealing with vector-borne
diseases.
Even
though the need for coordination between the units was accepted
in principle by the Health Ministry two years ago, it is yet to
be implemented. Provision had been made through a Cabinet Paper
and a memorandum dated 6.11.2002 by the Health Minister to appoint
a Vector-borne Diseases Control Director to coordinate the units.
The post is still vacant .
The
streamlining of vector-borne disease units would make for more effective
functioning since resources could be pooled and shared, the GMOA
has said. |
