Grade
I entrants on school notice boards
The lists of Grade I admissions would be released on September 20
and displayed on the notice board of every school, with a 15-day
period given for appeals to be considered, an Education Ministry
official said.
Complaints
regarding non-selection would be entertained by the respective principals
and the complaints would be looked into by a committee headed by
a principal of a school in the vicinity.
All
the documents of the child, in respect of whom the complaint has
been made, would be re-examined by the committee, the official said.
During school admission interviews principals of some schools had
come across forged documents submitted by parents to get their children
admitted to schools, despite strict regulations regarding school
admissions, he said.
Principal
of Royal College, Colombo Upali Gunasekara said he had found many
parents applying from the same address. "We have informed people
living in the same road/street to appear at interviews at one particular
time", he said explaining precautions taken to avoid malpractices
and forgery. Principal of Yasodara BMV, Gampaha Mrs. H. W. Nanayakkara
told The Sunday Times that the main problem she faces is that documents
are submitted without the grama niladhari's certificate. In deciding
on admissions to Grade I, a marking scheme is being followed. A
householder's child carries 40 marks. Such householder should have
been living in the area for at least 6 years for the child to be
eligible. |
