Family in trishaw killed in van-bus crash

Four members of a family were killed yesterday in a collision involving the three wheeler they were travelling in, a van and a private bus in Kandy, police said. The mother, father and their two sons, aged four and eight, were killed in the accident that took place near the Royal Mall Hotel on William Gopallawa Mawatha in Kandy.

The woman killed in the incident was an employee of Hatton National Bank, Kandy. The three wheeler driver was admitted to the Kandy hospital and his condition is said to be serious. Police have arrested the driver of the private bus.

Police said their initial investigations show that the stationary threewheeler was caught between the the van and the bus when they crashed.
