Company

The Customs investigated a leading company in Colombo for allegedly
under valuing a stock of some five million ballpoint pens imported
from India.
According
to a Customs estimate the company J.L. Morison had allegedly defrauded
the country of nearly six hundred thousand rupees in Customs duty
and V.A.T.
The
importer had allegedly attempted to clear the consignment from Customs
with the use of forged documents, an official said. After probing
the matter, the Customs Department had decided to impose a fine
of 1.2 million rupees.
The
